Launch Into Enemy Territory!

Launching Into Enemy Territory Tomorrow!

From: Mike Redick
SMCI, International Director

"On Wednesday, July 21, we are going to hold a series of Gospel meetings on the Island of Siquijor with the goal of establishing SMCI on the university campuses there. Siquijor is a small Island off the coast of Negros and it is notorious and known country wide for its witchcraft and demonism. The Island is so steeped in witchcraft that Catholic organizations are not allowed on the university and college campuses. This is amazing considering the Philippines is a Roman Catholic country.

However, after years of prayer, the Lord has opened for us a wonderful door of opportunity! The administrations on several campuses have given us permission to preach the Gospel to their students.

We will be taking a team of five people, who are both prayer warriors and preachers and for three days we will present the Gospel to this needy island. We have a team of workers who will go with us and will stay to establish a work on the Island after we leave (Alma & Perla Joy among them.) Please pray with us as we go forward on our knees and trust God to do an amazing and powerful work on this pagan Island."

More About the island of Siquijor: For a time it was sub-province of Negros Oriental. Called Isla del Fuego or the “Island of Fire” by the Spanish before, Siquijor is considered by many Filipinos to be a mystical island, full of witches and other supernatural phenomena. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siquijor

How Did The SMCI Campaigns Begin?

A Message From Mike Redick, SMCI International Director:

Monday, July 19 begins the third week on our SMCI gospel campaign. We are on the Island of Negros where SMCI had it's start nearly 10 years ago. I remember receiving a phone call in 2002 from our SMCI worker, Joy Pinero asking me to come and hold some Gospel Meetings on the Negros State University Campus. At first, I was hesitant and actually declined the invitation. But the next day I heard a devotion from Acts 8 and the phrase "Arise and Go" struck me like an arrow fired from God's bow. In obedience I arose and went and I am glad I diid. We saw a wonderful harvest of souls. Most of our present full time staff were saved during those few weeks of meetings.

Today, almost 10 years later, SMCI has grown! With 70 on staff we are now on six Islands and hold daily bible studies on over 70 university and college campuses. Our work on the Island of Negros is by far our most mature. In the last few years we have placed bible studies on nearly every university and college campus in Negros oriental. We have planted three churches with many outreaches, pastored by our own converts.

Our campaign this year on Negros is by far our most aggressive. The Lord opened a wonderful door into the high schools this year. In fact, in the next two weeks we will preach the gospel to the student bodies of every high school in Negros Oriental. Looking at the list there are over 50 high schools that have agreed to our campaign. In addition there are a dozen new university and college campuses as well. This is a daunting task. Please pray for our team to have the strength to preach a clear gospel.

Picture This!

Words from the Frontlines:

We thank the Lord for many open doors and ready hearts to hear the gospel. Every morning this week a team of 26 people get up and board our three vehicles and we head out to the pre-arranged High Schools and Universities for a day of preaching the Gospel.
The schools usually allow us to preach to their student either by going room to room or by addressing the entire student body. It is very exciting to walk into a school of 1000 young people and walk out one hour later knowing that every young person and faculty member heard the gospel. In the last three days we have preached to the entire student body of over a dozen such schools. We thank the Lord such an opportunity.
 Mike

Ready, Set, Go!

On Monday, July 5th, we begin our six week Gospel crusade in the Philippines. The Lord has brought together a wonderful team of people to help us reach and reap the harvest. Our goal this crusade is to present the gospel-either through a personal witness or the preaching of the word to 70,000 people. In order to help us accomplish this task we have assembled a team of 120 soul winners from six different countries that will join me in the Philippines. We have printed nearly 500,000 'Good News' gospel tracts and a pamphlet I wrote entitled 'Be Sure' that we give to all who make salvation decisions.

Our campus ministry, Student Movement for Christ, SMCI has been diligently securing permission to preach the Gospel on University, College and High School campuses throughout the Philippines. Our first week alone we have permission to preach the gospel to the student bodies of 63 High Schools and dozens of Universities and Colleges. Our SMCI staff will work alongside us and follow up the converts from each Island during the year ahead. All who make salvation decisions will fill out a particulars card-the card will be given to our SMCI staff and through out the year they will work on following them up. Over the years we have seen many saved, disciple, and called into fulltime service as a result of our campaigns.

Please pray along with us during our campaign. Here is our schedule;

July 5-10, Leyte, Philippines
July 12-17, Cebu, Philippines
July 19-31, Negros, Philippines
August 2-7, Bohol, Philippines
August 9-14, Davao, Philippines
Please pray for power on the preaching of God's Word, open doors to preach the Gospel, protection as we travel and physical strength to accomplish the task. These are physically difficult meetings. It is what I call 'cowboy evangelism'. We will be preaching in class rooms or on open fields all day and holding Gospel meetings at night. The majority of the time we will be sleeping on the floor somewhere, bathing out of a bucket, traveling in hired vehicles or on a crowded boat. It is also the rainy season, which brings malaria. Needless to say we need your prayers.
